"Yuhigaura Hotspring" in Kyoto Prefecture

"Yuhigaura Hotspring" is located in the western part of the Tango Peninsula. The hot spring was developed in 1980, and hot spring water began being supplied to hotls and inns in 1982.

Before the hot spring was developed, the area was named "Hamazume Beach "and there were several inns here. After the hot spring was developed, the name was changed to "Yuhigaura Hotspring". "Yuhigaura" means the beach where you can see the beautiful sunset in Japanese. The area aims to attract visitors from the Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe areas.

In 2012, I stayed at "Yuhigaura Hotspring", after visiting "Amanohashidate", "Ineura" boat houses and "Kaya" Historical District.

After visiting Kaya, I took the Kyoto Tango Railway from Yosano and got off at Yuhigaura Kizu Onsen Station.

The Yuhigaura Hotspring is located about two kilometers from the station. I asked the inn, where I had booked, to pick me at the station.

This is the rural inn "Yasunoya" where I stayed that night.

After arriving at the inn, I headed out to the beach, about a ten-minute walk from the inn, to watch the sunset. To the west of Yuhigaura Onsen is a sandy beach overlooking the Sea of Japan, where you can see the beautiful sunset. But. unfortunately, there were clouds.

With about fourty minutes until sunset, I decided to wait on the beach for a while, hoping that the clouds would clear.

As I waited for the sun to set on the beach, the clouds gradually thinned out. The waves of the Sea of Japan were calm, and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore was soothing.

After waiting for about fouty minutes, as the sun was setting, the western sky parted and the setting sun appeared.

There were still clouds around the horizon, but I was able to watch the sunset, so it was worth to wait.

When I returned to my inn after watching the sunset, it was already dark. The appearance of the inn with the lights on was also impressive.

I spent a relaxing night at the inn and headed back to the beach the next morning. This is the view of the village of Yuhigaura on my way to the beach.

The village of Yuhigaura Onsen is small, with just a few hot spring inns located near the coast.

This is what Yuhigaura Beach looked like in the morning. It was a refreshing beach just before 7am.

How to get there
